Both Clubs wish to incorporate the planned NFFC - CBC scratch match, 30 March 2019 as part of planned events. The date and timing present an opportunity for all members, players and supporters to join us and actively promote key fund-raising strategies, targeting ‘Mental Health’ support and the Kai Eardley Fund. Both are appealing to the wider community, to join them in remembrance of Kai Eardley, who tragically lost his struggle with depression.
Both Clubs wish to raise the awareness of mental health via:
- Kai Fella Cup Dinner at East Fremantle Oval Friday 29 March – see incorporated flyer for information
- The 30 March Scratch Match and associated activities pre-game and on game day – see incorporated flyer for information
The local member Lisa O’Malley is also behind the initiative and with helpers, is seeking support and funding to assist. East Fremantle Football Club is also providing support.
The Kai Eardley Fund aims to create positive change for youth mental health and to honour the life of East Freo boy and talented footballer Kai Eardley. At its core, the fund implements and financially supports mental health programs in West Australian schools that wouldn’t otherwise be able to access them. The highly regarded workshops, facilitated by the team at ‘Tomorrow Man’, provide boys and young men the tools to cope with the stresses of adolescence and create an opportunity to break through the stereotypes of masculinity. ‘Tomorrow Man’ workshops provide the opportunity for young men to come together to talk openly, support one another and learn valuable coping skills.
In Western Australia, the leading cause of death for those aged 15-44 is suicide; and 75% of suicides in WA are men. This needs to change.
100% of profits and funds raised on the night will be donated to the Kai Eardley fund.
