With the D2 Thirds and Fourths having a bye on the weekend only four NFAFC games were played, with North winning all of them! Our League, Reserves and Drew Banfield Colts all travelled to Stirling, with the senior sides getting percentage boosters from their games and the colts winning on yet another forfeit, this time due to insufficient Stirling players. While the points are handy, the lack of match time is not so good and this is the third occasion this year. It just is not good enough!
However, the League team possibly played their best football for the year. They established their dominance early in the game, clearing out to a seven goal lead, without Stirling troubling the scorers. North's skilled movement and game style were seamless throughout, making it very difficult for their opponents to make any heafway. But perhaps the most positive aspect about the game was the on-field coaching and leadership displayed by the players, taking on the responsibility to ensure key strategies and teamwork were constantly in place and when necessary, quickly changed and adapted to suit a particular need, throughout the game. IN the end North ran out comfortable winners 14>6 (100) to 1.5 (11). It was a complete four quarter team effort and certainly warmly welcomed by our senior coach. A great game boys and with other results falling our way, the League now sit clearly on top of the ladder!
The Reserves similarly bounced out of the blocks and stamped their dominance on the game. They were insatiable in their drive to win and just overwhelmed Stirling with skills, teamwork and sheer commitment. The lead continued to mount as the game progressed and North ploughed to a comfortable victory: 15:13 (103) to 4.3 (27). A great team performance which maintains their clear top of the table position.
There was only one home game on Saturday, played by our Brett Jones Colts against CBC. It was always going to be a hard game with the inclement weather and traditional rivalry. What made it even harder were the numerous errors, turnovers, sloppy skills and missed goal opportunities early in the game, for both teams, It was more an arm wrestle and at half time only three goals were registered by both teams, plus a plethora of points by North. The game did change in the second half, as North linked up more as a team and were more attacking in their ball movement and spread across the ground, The game was finally blown apart by North in the final quarter, runnign away to a well deserved victory: 7.11 (53) to 4.4 (28). Congratulations boys! The win continues to help consolidating a finals position!
