PRESIDENTS REPORT: Round 5 11 April 2019

Published Sun 12 May 2019

It was clear form the outset that North were up and about with a steely determination that upset the opposition’s game style. A really tough first quarter had North a couple of kicks in front. What followed in the second quarter was simply a masterclass football exhibition where North piled on eight goals and established a match winning lead. For those of us who witnessed this, it was a wonderful treat, many saying it was the best football seen from North Fremantle. However, CBC fought on and took some ascendancy in the third quarter. But North wrested this back in the final quarter to maintain their lead ad win the game, comfortably. North 14.5 (89) to CBC 8.6 (54).

Presentations at the end of the day were made in the Stan Whipp Hall in front of a very large group of CBC and NFAFC players and supporters. The Naylor - Tetley trophy was won by North, as victors on the day. It was a massive achievement given the Club had not won it for almost a decade! The Best on Ground Medal, presented by CBC was awarded to our courageous and loyal midfielder, Joel Palumbo. Drew Herrington, six-time NFAFC Captain and Fairest and Best Player also presented the traditional Drew Herrington Medal for the best North player on the day. It proved a quinella for Joel Palumbo!! Many thanks for all those who turned up for the game and to those who provided the services, catering, refreshments and logistics in ensuring it was such a successful day!! Well done!

Unfortunately results in other games did not fall our way. The only other winner was our D1 League team who took on a strong Curtin Uni – Wesley side at South Oval. Our lads proved a handful for the opposition and played with passion and skill to be the dominant side on the day. The D1’s are improving each week in all facets of their game. This is no producing rewards! These will increase and continue providing training attendance is maintained. Well done the Threes! North 13.6 (84) Curtin Uni – Wesley 6.6 (42).

The A Reserves more then held their own in the first half, but CBC slowly took control and were the dominant team on the day. Too many disposal errors and turnovers took their toll, giving North little chance of clawing back the lead from CBC. The effort was there, but the skills went somewhat awry at times. North 3.4 (22) CBC 8.4 (52). Next week is a new challenge!

D1 league Reserves found it hard going against stiff opposition in Curtin Uni.  The effort was there, but just couldn’t match the opposition, who dominated all day.  North 0.3 (3) Curtin Uni – Wesley 20.11 (131).  The Brett Jones Colts faired little better in their Thursday night game against Ladder leaders CBC. North 1.4 (10) CBC 13.10 (88).  While the it was a big loss, the lads have avoided the huge recent losses.  Keep up the effort lads!  The Phil Scott Colts played CBC on Friday night, in a real tussle.  Big efforts on both sides produced a good quality effort.  However, CBC are the Ladder Leaders and proved their dominance as the game progressed.  But it was a terrific effort form our lads, who continue to improve each game.  Errant shots at goal were costly. North 6.10 (46) CBC 11.6 (72).
