The Legends match was one of the day’s highlights with the reappearance of numerus past champions, Club and Association! Their footy skills, vison and innate ability certainly helped them to run out as clear winners! Even Kevin Murphy pulled on the black and white, as a sexagenarian, and absolutely burnt in the two, 2-minute spells each half!! Regardless he had nil touches of the leather, he was unanimously BOG! But others just slipped into the match as if they were young guns and still displayed their silky skills, precision and pace!?? These included: Grant Nelson; Phippsy; Gino; Siegs; Mully; Matty Morris; Minnow; Fazz; Molly; Eddo; Dobby; and even Wedgy who came all the way from Canada; plus many, many more. The big help was a long bench of near 20 for interchange. It was great fun and a great way to support the Kai Fella Fund!
The league came up against the 2018 A CBC Grade finalist and it was a cracker of a contest. Our new recruits looked good and there was a pleasing blend of teamwork and passion in their approach to the game. Scores remained very close throughout. It certainly was a good hit out for both sides. Coach Woewodin was certainly pleased with what he saw. In he end CBC had a narrow win to claim the first Kai Cup for the Kai Fund!
Many thanks to CBC for hosting the day and ensuring we all paid due respect to the Kai Fund! Well done!! While we have a long history as derby rivals, that no other WAAFL Clubs have, we can also come together and for other important community minded occasions, such as the launch of the Kai Eardley Fund.
