President Report Round 17: 4 August 2018

Published Sun 05 Aug 2018

Four wins out of six games again this week, with all senior teams winning, but Colts were not as successful. Conditions were extremely difficult with strong winds and heavy rain. Teams which adapted best to the conditions gave themselves a good chance for victory.  Congratulations to Claydo on his 150th game for the Club!

The league was away at West Coast and the weather kept scores reasonably close for most of the game. However, North steadied in the second half and utilising the breeze in the final quarter, ran away to a comfortable lead, winning easily in the end: North 11-7 (73) to west Coast 7-7 (49). It was a dominant display by North. The Reserves again continued their undefeated run and proved too skillful and strong for West Coast. Their dominance continued throughout the game, running out deserved winners: North 6-16 (52) to West Coast 3-4 (22). Congratulations to both teams. The league has locked in second position and the Reserves maintain theirs at the top of the ladder. Unfortunately, the Drew Banfield Colts were not on their game and cam across a very good West Coast team, which proved too strong on the day: North 1-6 (12) to West Coast 5-15 (45). However, a place in the finals is still within their grasp. Next week is a new game and an opportunity to be there!

At home, the D1’s turned on good performances, winning both games against Trinity Aquinas. D1 League knew they had a tough task against TA’s, but in reality, it was North who took the game by the scruff of the neck to dominate all day. It was perhaps the best game by the Threes for the year, and certainly a big confidence booster leading into the finals, soon: North 15-6 (96) to TA’s 1-4 (10). The D1 Reserves (Fours), despite being short of players again, stood up and just fought hard, with great spirit all day! They shed their underdog status and ran out comfortable winners in the end: North 9-5 (59) to TA’s 4- 10 (34). Again, a great effort by both teams. Thirds are looking to improve their position for the finals, while luck is needed for the Fours. The Brett Jones Colts fought hard all day against Whitford.s in a close encounter. Your have to admire the way our lads just work hard and never stop trying! Their efforts have to be acknowledged against a pretty undisciplined opponent, which marred the game at one stage. Ultimately, the lads just could not close the gap: North 4-6 (30) to Whitford 606 (42).
