President Report Round 14: July 14 2018

Published Sun 15 Jul 2018

Round 14 was a very productive weekend for the Club, winning 5 out of 6 games.  The 'top of the table' clash was the highlight of the round in an absorbing encounter, deserved of a high billing and a terrific crowd who were engrossed throughout. Congratulations to both teams.  In a game with fierce clashes and high skills there was no place for the faint hearted.  North had set themselves for this encounter, determined to reverse the first round loss.  Consequently it was a very different League side to last week, which took the game by the scruff of the neck and kicked clear in the first quarter, with the aid of a strong breeze.  Going into it was a different story which saw the lead eroded.  Such was the trend for both teams.  With scores very tight at half time, the second half became one huge arm wrestle, with scores remaining close throughout, in rainy conditions.  it was anyones game!  Ultimately North's determination, aggression and fierce desire to win saw them control the last quarter, into the wind, to pull off a fantastic and well deserved victory:  9-11 (65) to Kingsley 8-9 (57).  It was Kingley's first loss for the season which makes the win more impressive.  Congratulations to all involved!

Kingsley were also defeated in the reserves game, where North continued their unbeaten march, to date.  However it was by no means plain sailing as Kingsley threw up the challenge and managed destabilise North's usual control and game flow.  A credit to Kingsley!  The situation was reversed in the second half after a well deserved spray from the coach focused at the need for involvement and challenge.  The lads took all on board and turned things around in the second half to run out comfortable winners:  8-6 (54) to Kingsley 3-5 (23).  A good reminder of what's needed for the future!

There was no pleasure gained by Kingsley against North D1 teams either, who travelled to Kingsley Park.  Wins were essential for both teams to remain in finals contention.  The D1 Reserves set the tone of the day with a well deserved win, despite ongoing concerns about numbers.  Pure desire and effort enabled North to take control and maintain a lead which saw them run out deserved winners.  More accurate kicking would have boosted the margin: 10-12 (72) to Kingsley 9-7 (61).  Similarly, the D1 League had come to play and were as determined and focused on a win all day.  The lads controlled the game throughout and pressed on to a strong win: 10-7 (67) to Kingsley (5-7 (37).  Congratulations to both teams!

Our Colts had mixed results on the day.  However it was the Drew Banfield Colts who set the tone of the Day, at home, with a percentage boosting victory against Kingsley!  The lads were at their best, moving the ball around quickly anf precisely and maintaining their game structures.  A win was a must for finals chances and the lads responded.  It was perhaps their best game, running out victors by a massive margin:  North 18-9 (117) to Kingsley 5-2 (32).  Congratulations to everyone.  Contrastingly the Brett Jones Clots were away on their own again and under lights against Uni Curtin - Wesley at South Oval.  It's a tough gig being the sole team and having to adjust to game time differences. Regardless the lads gave it their best shot and never stopped trying. You have to admire their spirit and their camaraderie with each other.  Ultimately, the home team just proved too good on the night running out comfortable winners:  North 2-6 (18) to Uni Curtin - Wesley 6-8 (44).

A huge thanks to the many supporters, from both Clubs, who turned up at North for the big clash.  Everyone certainly got their money's worth.  An another huge thanks to the many supporters who joined up at Awards presentation in the Hall, after the game!  Great to see the 2008 Colts premiership team reunion as well, joining in with the spirit of the day and reliving the past!   Well done to everyone!
