Our Founding Club (1901-1915) lost more players in battle in World War I than any other sporting club in Western Australia – so great that the original club folded in 1915 because 44 players and officials had volunteered to fight. Two great footballers were killed at Gallipoli, nine others on The Western Front, and one flying in the Royal Air Force in Britain.
The bereaved families of these footballers, asked for just one thing… that their sons would always be remembered.
Club President, Tony Misich OAM, will be Master of Ceremonies for the 30-minute service which will be attended by Special Dignitaries, businesses, organisations and the local community members. They include: Ms Lisa O’Malley MLA representing the Premier and Dr David Honey MLA Member for Cottesloe; Dr Brad Pettitt (City of Fremantle); Mr Josh Wilson MP Federal Member for Fremantle; Mr Matt Granger Vice President Legacy WA; Ms Danicia Quinlan CEO Fremantle Chamber of Commerce; Mr Jeffrey Cottrell Relative and Families; the Bicton-Palmyra RSL; Fremantle RSL; North Fremantle Primary School; North Fremantle Amateur Football Club and the North Fremantle Community have combined to honour these footballers.
Our Colts have been an important part of the ceremony each year in honouring the 12 footballers who died at Gallipoli and on The Western Front carrying the club jumpers in their names.
Past player, Paddy Baker, will lay a wreath on behalf of the Nprth Fremantle Amateur Football Club
All club members, officials, supporters and their families are asked to be at the Fallen Soldiers Memorial on the corner of Queen Victoria Street and Harvest Terrace by 9am. The service will begin soon after 9am.
NOTE: Club members are urged to park on Gilbert Fraser Reserve and walk to the monument because some streets will be blocked off. NFAFC Members are asked to wear club shirts.
